"Just contacted Leupold.....availability still scheduled for August, but illuminated reticles will not be out until 2013. I just changed my order on SWFA accordingly and changed it to a duplex reticle. I was going to get an illuminated B&C, but I don't want an unlit B&C, as I think that reticle is easy to lose in bad light."
"Over the years I have owned a lot of different scopes. It was pretty early in my hunting career that I understood the importance of good optics. Until recently my favorites were Schmidt and Bender and Swarovski, with the Zeiss Victory not far behind. S&B own their own glass company and Swarovski uses Schott glass, which in my humble opinion is an important feature.
Leupold VX7 uses Schott glass and in one long conversation with Leupold I told them, dont hide this fact, as it is a plus, not a negative. Now they are building a scope better than the VX7, a VX6. Obviously I dont have this scope in my hand yet, as they will not be out until Aug/Sept, but one of the first ones off the line will be overnighted to me. ( 2 x 12 x 42 )
Even after I pay for a couple of features I want that are considered extras, the scope will be under a grand. Now imagine owning a Swarovski Z6 for under 1000 dollars
I personally rate the VX7, in the same class with the S & B , and Swarovski, and the VX6 by all accounts will be better than the VX7. Will get back to you in September with a hands on critique"
