The 256 Universal was designed by Todd Baldwin to make the 256 Winchester Magnum Universal Carbine a little more universal. The Universal Carbine was originally designed to use a plastic single stack magazine, which only allows for 60 grain flat point bullets to be used. By slightly opening up a 30-carbine bolt-face to accept a 223 Winchester case, a number of advantages become available. These include the use of slightly modified high capacity 30-carbine magazines, heavier pointed bullets, more reliable feeding and easy sizing of 223 brass using a 256 Winchester full length sizing die. Other brass with the same base size can also be used. This text is based on information from “Cartridges of the
World”, Hodgdon reloading manual, the cartridge designer and/or
own resources. |
