The .219 Donaldson Wasp was first developed in the 1930's as a wildcat cartridge. It is based upon the .38-55 case design, but shortened, and necked down to accept .22 caliber bullets. This cartridge is reknowned for its accuracy, and it was very popular for benchrest shooting during the 1940's. The .219 Donaldson Wasp lost popularity in the 1950's, due to competition from the .222 Remington.
